Competing in one of our tournaments for the first time?

Here is a handy breakdown of the different formats you may play in!

Single Elimination Format

Our tournament formats change depending on how many players enter.

A Single Elimination format is a rapid-fire tournament where all participants are placed into a ‘bracket’ and face opposing players round after round in order to advance along the bracket as far as possible.

During a Single Elimination tournament, a single loss means that the competitor is eliminated and has no more matches to play.

The tournament will naturally conclude with a Grand Final between the two remaining undefeated players.

Double Elimination Format

A Double Elimination tournament allows each competitor to be eliminated twice.

Double Elimination tournaments have twice as many rounds as a Single Elimination and defeated players will be dropped into a 'Lower Bracket' that runs alongside the undefeated 'Upper Bracket'.

The last player remaining in the Lower Bracket progresses to the Grand Finals to play the last remaining undefeated competitor.

A Double Elimination Grand Final will often have a 'Bracket-Reset' final. This means that if the competitor playing from the Losers Bracket beats the otherwise undefeated competitor, the Grand Finals will reset and the series will be played again.

Swiss Format

Swiss is a non-elimination format, where players are matched semi-randomly against opponents with an identical (or in some cases similar) win/loss record during this tournament.

This means players will be randomly matched in the first round. If they win they will play against an opponent who has also won one game, if they win again they will play against another opponent who has also won two games that they have not faced in previous rounds.
